I'm Tim Varley, a Principal Systems Engineer and Technical Lead with over 15 years of experience designing and building high-performance distributed systems. Based in Bensalem, PA (originally from Oxford, UK), I specialize in systems architecture, microservices, protocol engineering, and security — with a strong command of the infrastructure and DevOps disciplines needed to operate them at scale.

My core philosophy centers on AI-driven development and Agentic workflows. I believe in leveraging advanced AI tools to amplify the capabilities of small, focused teams, enabling them to deliver innovative, disruptive technology with full ownership and unprecedented velocity.

I currently serve as Technical Lead across two concurrent IoT platform engagements, responsible for systems architecture, infrastructure, and DevOps across two distinct companies simultaneously. I lead the technical strategy, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps for two separate IoT companies simultaneously:

  • Energy Management Platform: Focused on power usage monitoring and optimization, utilizing SBC Edge devices managed via Balena fleet management.

In this dual role, I:
